Don’t confuse advertising and social media

Advertising on Facebook is still advertising. It has its place, and it can be effective, but advertising on Facebook and expecting to reap the same rewards as you’d get from a social media strategy is a little like hiring a prostitute and expecting to find a love that will last forever. The former requires money but very little time; the latter can be done with no money but requires a lot of time. The former doesn’t require an eager partner; the latter absolutely does. The former does not require a long-term commitment, but the latter can’t work without a sustained, mutual effort.

Advertising on Facebook is still advertising. You’re paying to be there, so it’s unlikely that alone is going to inspire anyone to fall in love with you.

  1. Excellent.

    Short and to the point.

You may not get arrested for advertising on Facebook, but prepare to pay for it!

Oh, and when I do a Google search for a business and the company has a paid ad along with the free listing, I almost always click on the paid ad, so they have to pay.

    Ca-ching!
