The easiest part of implementing a social media strategy–and the hardest

The easiest part of implementing a social media strategy is starting a new page or profile. Click, click, type, type, and you’re done. Five minutes, $0.

The hard part is what comes before and after: taking the time to think through your strategy (deciding, for example, whether starting that profile makes any sense at all), and then having the bandwidth, patience and dedication to sustain your presence over time.

Individuals and companies often go right to the easy part without giving the hard part any consideration whatsoever. Know this, however: a social media presence started with five minutes of thought has a lifespan of about five minutes. If you want any return on your efforts, it’s going to take a lot more time–and effort.
