Facebook Places rolls out recommendations

A big tip o’ the hat to Robyn Sekula on this one: Facebook recently introduced a feature that lets users recommend favorite places to their friends. This post on the Eddie Merlot’s* blog explains how to submit a recommendation (the business must be on Facebook Places in order to be recommended), and this post from NectarWineBlog.com provides some tips and suggested uses for page administrators.

As consumers become ever-more accustomed to sharing and seeking opinions from their peers via social media, tools like this will have an increasing influence over the choices we all make. It’s another example of how social media is amplifying the best marketing tool a business could hope to use–word of mouth.

  1. Thanks, Anthony! I appreciate the credit. It’s a great feature and Eddie’s has already had two recommendations. I also recommended my church, and I plan to recommend other businesses as well.
