Social media is simple

"That was easy" by catharticflux on Flickr

Really, really, really simple. Three steps:

1. Determine what problems you solve by way of your work, and for whom, then…

2. Find a place or places where those people exist and–this is important–where they want to interact with you consistent with their need to find a solution to the problem you solve*, then…

3. Spend all your time being a resource who seeks to solve the audience’s problem(s) consistent with their needs and unique to your skills/expertise/worldview/personality.

That’s it. Really.

*It’s probably not Facebook. You’ll find them there, but they probably don’t want to interact with you as you might think. Here’s why.
