LinkedIn adds Quora integration; what does that mean for LinkedIn Answers?

Quora recently announced that LinkedIn members can now share Quora answers as status updates. If you’re an active Quora user, you’ll see this along with your other share options:

This is probably good news for those on Quora, but how will it affect the rest of us–beyond seeing Quora answers in our news feed? Well, I asked LinkedIn if any changes were on the horizon for LinkedIn Answers, the site’s integrated Q & A portal that happens to work a lot like Quora. (The timing of the Quora announcement combined with the recently-launched changes to LinkedIn’s profiles made me wonder.) Here’s what they said:

Why might closer integration with Quora put Answers in jeopardy? Last week in my post about LinkedIn terminating the Events feature I shared the following quote from the LinkedIn blog:

[F]rom time to time, we take a look at our set of features to evaluate how they’re being used by our members. Part of this process sometimes means we decide to eliminate a feature.

So, while it sounds like Answers is safe for now, other features may still be cut/modified as LinkedIn looks to sharpen its focus.
